In Switzerland at the invitation of watch brand ID Genève for the launch of its new model made of solar-melted recycled steel — “Eclipse”, part of the Circular S line — Leonardo DiCaprio was given an exclusive tour of PANATERE’s solar furnace in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Organized especially for the actor, investor and environmental advocate by the brand of which he is a shareholder, the visit allowed him to meet PANATERE’s teams and discover the different stages of the recycling process. But above all, DiCaprio was able to observe first-hand Switzerland’s first industrial solar furnace in action – an installation capable of reaching more than 1,500 °C using only concentrated sunlight.
Developed and operated by PANATERE, this revolutionary technology makes it possible to locally re-melt steel and other recycled metals with an extremely low carbon footprint, paving the way for a new generation of sustainable materials for the industry.
« Leonardo DiCaprio’s visit is a powerful recognition of the direction we have chosen,” says Raphaël Broye, CEO of Panatere. « Solar metallurgy demonstrates that industrial production can be both high-end and climate positive. This visit highlights the importance of building a truly local and renewable ecosystem of materials. ”
This moment marks a new milestone for the region, further confirming its role as an innovation hub in the field of sustainable manufacturing technologies.
