We provide compact, cost-efficient power sources to off-grid industries (IoT, surveillance, telecom) and for drones for a total SOM of 1.1B CHF. Our patented technology allows solid oxide fuel cells miniaturization. Our compact design and the use of high energy density fuels allow us to be up to 90% lighter, with 20x more energy density than Li-batteries.

In our increasingly electrified and digitalized world, providing electrical power in a reliable, clean and cost-effective manner is yet a tough technical and logistical challenge for many industries. IoT devices in remote locations (e.g. mountain, arctic area), mobile surveillance or telecommunication systems and also autonomous robotic systems are few examples of many applications that are in urge to find efficient power supply to make the overall system viable and autonomous. Most of these devices rely on batteries, solar panels, diesel engines or a combination of them which are in fact provide poor and unreliable performances, often expensive to acquire, to maintain and also they leave large negative impact. Our serviceable obtainable market is currently estimated at 1-1.2B CHF and growing quickly.

The startup INERGIO, a spin-off from EPFL and HEIG-VD, is developing and commercializing a technology invented at EPFL to provide reliable, ecological and cost-effective power for remote and mobile applications. We have taken a unique patent-pending approach to miniaturize Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) system, one of the most efficient fuel cell technology, to be used for small-sized and mobile applications. A cost-effective system design that address the main technical challenges that were preventing SOFCs to be used for mobile applications. We are miniaturizing the only fuel-flexible fuel cell system that can use almost any kind of fuel ranging from liquid fuels (butane, natural gas, etc.) to biogas and hydrogen, delivering eco-friendly to green energy solution with a current total emission of 140-600g of CO2 per kWh (depending on fuel used) vs 1’126g of CO2 per kWh for a diesel generator for example. This comes in addition to our indirect positive impact on CO2 emission by lowering the weight and number of transportations. Thanks to our compact design and the use of high energy density liquid fuel (20x more energy per mass than Li-battery), we are delivering a power system 90% lighter in comparison to the current solutions (the autonomy can be increased by the same factor).
